# Gratitude in All Its Glory

I have come to the conclusion that gratitude is a little like travel: the more you do it, the easier it gets.

And honestly, some days I need to look a little harder than others!

When we think about gratitude, we often think about the big things, the beautiful destination, the perfect vacation, good health, family, friendships, or that spectacular sunset that makes you stop in your tracks. And yes, absolutely, be grateful for those things. But what about the little things? The first sip of coffee in the morning. A stranger holding the door open. A delicious meal shared with friends. A warm breeze on your face. A message from someone you haven't heard from in a while. Those little moments are everywhere if we slow down enough to notice them.

Travel has taught me that gratitude doesn't require everything to go perfectly. In fact, sometimes the best stories come from the things that didn't go according to plan.

A delayed flight. A wrong turn. A restaurant that looked questionable but turned out to serve the best meal of the trip. A spontaneous conversation with someone you'll probably never see again.

Those moments remind us that life isn't meant to be perfectly planned. Sometimes the detour is where the magic lives.

I also think gratitude is about people. The friends who make us laugh until our stomachs hurt. The family who shows up. The stranger who offers directions. The local who shares their favourite little restaurant. The person who simply makes an ordinary day feel a little brighter. Never skip an opportunity to make someone else's day brighter. I am always grateful for that!

When we travel mindfully, we begin to realize how connected we really are. Maybe the greatest gratitude of all is being grateful for where we are right now. It's so easy to live in the next trip mindset, planning the next adventure, counting down to the next vacation, dreaming about where we'll go next. What if we paused today and said: This moment is pretty wonderful too.

So here's my mindful moment for you today:

Stop. Look around. Take a breath. And find three things to be grateful for. They don't have to be extraordinary. Actually, I challenge you to choose ordinary things.

Because when we start appreciating the ordinary, life suddenly feels a whole lot more extraordinary.

And if you're having trouble finding something to be grateful for, start with coffee. I'm a mindful traveller, not a miracle worker. And I'm writing this at 5:30 a.m.

Travel mindfully. Live gratefully. Find the glory in the little things.

Yours in gratitude, Ms. Mindful Traveller
