# Finding the Beauty in Heraklion


There's something wonderfully grounding about arriving in Heraklion, Crete. Maybe it's the warmth of the Greek sun, the sound of people chatting over coffee, or the smell of incredible Greek food drifting through the streets. From fresh seafood and Greek salads to creamy tzatziki, warm pita and all those delicious little bites meant for sharing in Crete, eating isn't just a meal, it's an experience. One we are very happy to experience again and again!

Then there's the history. Museums, ancient treasures and stories around every corner remind you that you're walking through a place with thousands of years of history. It's hard not to slow down and appreciate how many generations have walked these same streets before us.

One thing that really stood out to us was the feeling of safety. There's something peaceful about wandering, exploring and simply enjoying a destination without constantly looking over your shoulder. That sense of ease lets you be present to notice the little things, meet people, explore a museum or simply sit and watch the world go by.

Now, let's talk about colour, or the lack thereof. Heraklion may not be the most colourful place we've visited. There are plenty of beautiful shades of white, beige, stone and... well, more beige! But perhaps that's part of the charm. The simplicity allows the blue of the Greek sky, the turquoise of the sea and the vibrant colours of the food to steal the show.

And isn't that a mindful lesson in itself? Beauty doesn't always have to be loud or colourful. Sometimes it's found in simplicity. In history. In hospitality. In a delicious meal shared with good company. In feeling safe enough to wander without a plan.

Mindful travel is noticing what a place gives you even when it isn't what you expected.

So here's to Heraklion: History to explore, food to savour, beauty in the sea and sky, culture to experience, people to meet, and plenty of reasons to slow down and simply be.

Sometimes, the experience is the colour.
