There is a quote we keep coming back to: the journey is the travel, not just the destination. It sounds like a cliché until you’ve had a travel day where everything went wrong — and then you’ve had a travel day where everything went right. The difference often comes down to one thing: preparation.

    The Travel Day Spectrum

We have experienced both ends of the spectrum. Then there was the day in Puerto Vallarta when our flight was delayed by four hours. Instead of stressing about the delay, we accessed a lounge with our credit card, had a proper meal, caught up on work using the free WiFi, and actually enjoyed the unexpected downtime. When we finally arrived at our hotel, we were relaxed, fed, and ready to explore.

Sustainable Travel: Social and Cultural Impact

When you travel do you take time to learn about the people, the history and the culture? Do you know and respect the local customs? Each of us can be anthropologists in another country exploring without impacting or judging. We don’t always understand, the ways in which others interact. Is it polite to bow when you meet someone, is it ok to shake their hand? What about looking someone in the eye. We have our own social rules of politeness but not everywhere share these rules. Slurping your soup in some places is a sign that you really enjoy the soup, in other places it is frowned upon. It is important to have contextual knowledge so that you do not offend the people of a country that has so graciously let you visit. Find out a little bit about the place you are going. It will make you feel more prepared and relaxed. Do woman need to have their head covered? If this is not something you are willing to do, then maybe this is not the place for you. It can alter your travel plans and that’s ok. Knowing your limits helps you to choose places that will meet your independent needs. While in Europe for instance many places require arms to be covered and woman dressed modestly packing a scarf and a long skirt will allow you to explore these places at ease.

April 2026 Mindful Moments: Mexico, Birthdays, and the Long Road Home

April 2026 was a month of celebration, unexpected connections, and the slow rhythm of a Mexican coast. From birthday surprises to day trips down dirt roads, these fifteen daily moments weave together into a story about presence, preparation, and the joy of not knowing what comes next. What follows are the daily mindful moments from the month.

    Breaking Bread

April 15, 2026

Sharing a meal among friends new and old have left me with long lasting memories on vacation. Finding just the right restaurant can sometimes be a challenge. Whether it be a five star restaurant or a quaint food truck the company that you share makes all the difference. When meeting new people in a new place, one of my conversation starters is always: What is your favourite go to restaurant on a budget? Have you ever noticed how people are so happy talking about food? Food brings families together. Some meals are with people we have grown with and some are with new friends. What binds us together is the breaking of bread! Next time you’re on vacation share a meal with someone new you’ll never regret it.

June 2025 Mindful Moments: Arriving in Greece

June 2025 marked the beginning of a lifelong dream: our first trip to Greece. After months of mindful moments in Mexico, crossing into Europe brought a different kind of presence — one born not from familiarity, but from productive discomfort. What follows is the mindful moment from this month.

    All Greek To Me

June 1, 2025

Travelling to Greece has been a lifelong dream. It is the first time travelling that we haven’t been able to read or understand the language. What a humbling experience it is to look at symbols that we can’t interpret. The history in Greece is so complex, that we can barely comprehend the enormity of time it covers. It is so incredible to be part of this amazing World!🌎

Every day on the road holds a lesson if you pause long enough to notice it. This March, we spent our days in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, a place that rewards slowness. What follows are the daily mindful moments from the month — the sunrises, the conversations, the small rituals, and the unexpected kindnesses that made this month unforgettable.

    Sunset

March 6, 2025

Here is a beautiful moment of a sunset in Puerto Vallarta, México.
