## August 17: The Feast of Friendship

{{< cloudinary src="mt/20260817-f-feast-friendship.png" alt="The Feast of Friendship" width="1200" >}}

Yesterday was a day filled with laughter, pickleball and a feast!

There are some journeys that don’t require a suitcase. Sometimes the best kind of travel is simply a small drive to a friend’s home, carrying a cooler knowing you’re about to have a great day. Finished up by a meal around a table filled with people you love. I absolutely adore a communal dinner. Everyone brings something. Someone brings the salad, someone brings the bread or when you are lucky bakes the bread, someone arrives with dessert, and there is always that one person who says, “I didn’t make much,” while carrying in enough food to feed a small village!

And somehow, when everything is placed on that giant table, it becomes a feast. But the real feast isn’t the food. It’s the people.

There is something wonderfully comforting about eating outside with friends, surrounded by good food, warm air and even better conversation. Plates are filled. Stories are shared. Laughter travels around the table. Someone tells a story we’ve heard before and we laugh anyway. We linger. And that, I think, is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. We live in a world where meals can be rushed, conversations can happen through screens, and “How are you?” can sometimes be answered with a quick emoji. But sitting around a table asks us to slow down. To look at one another. To listen. To share. To be present. Perhaps that is why communal meals feel so much like travel to me. They take us somewhere different, not necessarily geographically, but emotionally. They remind us that connection is one of the most beautiful places we can visit. I’ve learned that you don’t have to travel far to fill your heart with warmth. Sometimes all you need is a few good friends, a beautiful evening, a table big enough for everyone, and a willingness to contribute something to the feast.

Bring the salad. Bring the dessert. Bring anything. Most importantly, bring yourself, because when we all contribute a little, we create something much bigger than a meal.

We create belonging. So this week, my mindful invitation is simple: gather your people. Eat outside if you can. Put the phones away. Pass the plates. Tell the stories. Laugh until your cheeks hurt. Stay at the table just a little longer, because sometimes the most memorable journeys happen without ever leaving home.

Sometimes the greatest memories are the warmth you carry in your heart when everyone finally says, “What a wonderful evening.”

Until our next mindful moment… keep travelling, keep gathering, and wherever you are, make room at your table for connection.

Yours heartfelt, Ms. Mindful Traveller

## August 18: The Gift of Time

{{< cloudinary src="mt/20260818-f-coffee.png" alt="The Gift of Time" width="1200" >}}

Sometimes the best journeys don't require a detailed itinerary.

Sometimes, all we need is a coffee with a friend. A walk around the neighbourhood. A little shopping adventure. Or simply sitting on a park bench, watching the world go by while catching up on everything and nothing at all. There is something wonderfully restorative about one on one time with someone who matters to us. No rushing, no checking the clock every five minutes. Just two people sharing a little piece of their day. These moments give us something we don't always realize we need, perspective.

A good friend can listen when we need to talk, make us laugh when we need a little lightness, and sometimes say just the right thing that helps us see a situation differently. We don't always need advice. We just need someone beside us saying, "I get it."

Life gets busy. We tell ourselves we'll call next week. We'll get together when things slow down. We'll find time after this next project, trip, appointment or million other things on our to do list. But here's my little reminder from Ms. Mindful Traveller:

Time doesn't magically appear. We have to make it. So call that friend.

Invite them for coffee. Go for a walk. Browse the shops. Sit on a bench. Share a meal. Talk until your coffee is cold and your cheeks hurt from laughing. Because friendship isn't always about grand adventures. Sometimes the most meaningful moments are the simplest ones.

When we give someone our time, we are giving them something far more valuable than a gift wrapped in a bow. We are giving them our presence. I like to think of it as filling our cups, not with coffee this time, but with connection, laughter, understanding and shared memories. Goodness knows, we all need our cups filled once in a while!

So today, think of someone special in your life. Someone you haven't seen in a while. Someone you keep meaning to call. Maybe even someone whose company makes you feel a little more like yourself.

Reach out. Make the time, because the gift of time is one of the greatest gifts we can give and one of the greatest gifts we can receive.

Until our next mindful moment, remember: You don't always have to travel far to fill your cup. Sometimes, you just need to sit beside someone who fills your heart.

Reflectively yours, Ms. Mindful Traveller

## August 19: The Adventure Is You

{{< cloudinary src="mt/20260819-f-adventure.png" alt="The Adventure Is You" width="1200" >}}

I've decided that perhaps we've been looking at adventure all wrong.

We wait for the vacation. The weekend away. The big trip. The plane ticket. The hotel reservation.

But what if every day could hold a little adventure and what if you were the destination? You don't need to go anywhere to treat yourself to a little joy. Sometimes the most mindful thing we can do is simply pause and say, "Today, I'm going to do something just for me."

So I'm introducing my Seven Days of Little Joys, because life is far too short to save the good stuff for "someday."

**Monday Mood Booster**
Start the week with something that makes you smile. Perhaps it's a bubble bath, your favourite music, a quiet coffee, or ten minutes with a good book. Monday doesn't have to be a punishment. Give yourself a little sparkle to start the week.

**Tuesday Twinkle Toes**
Take care of those hardworking feet! Soak them, scrub them, moisturize them and, if you're feeling fancy, paint those toenails. Your feet carry you through all your adventures. They deserve a little pampering too!

**Wardrobe Wednesday**
You know that outfit hanging in your closet that you're "saving" for a special occasion? Wear it. Today is that special day. Life is happening right now. Put on the wonderful dress. Wear the colourful shirt. Add the earrings. Spray the perfume. Why save your favourite things for some mysterious future date?

**Thirsty Thursday**
Make yourself something decadent. A fancy coffee. A sparkling mocktail. A beautiful smoothie. Whatever makes your taste buds happy. Put it in the pretty glass. Add the garnish. Sit down and actually enjoy it. You are worth the fancy glass!

**Fabulous Film or Fitness Friday**
Friday is for fun! Have a movie night. Take some pictures of your evening. Laugh with friends. Make popcorn. Or, if moving your body brings you joy, make it Fitness Friday. Go for a walk, stretch, dance in the kitchen or get in a workout. Or even better do both, why not! The point isn't perfection. The point is feeling good in your own skin.

**Saturday: Set Yourself Up for Joy**
Take a little time to prepare for the week ahead. Make some plans, organize your calendar, prepare something delicious or simply decide what you'd like to look forward to. And don't forget to leave some space for spontaneity. After all, the best adventures don't always make it onto the calendar!

**Sunday Funday**
Wake up curious. Maybe there's a new trail to explore, a market to visit, a friend to call, a café you've never tried or simply a sunny spot where you can sit and watch the world go by. Be open to whatever adventure awaits.

Remember, you don't have to wait for a passport stamp to call it an adventure. Sometimes the greatest adventure is discovering how to enjoy the life you already have. So whatever day it is, take time for you.

Pamper yourself. Dress up. Move your body. Sip something delicious. Laugh. Rest. Explore. Take the picture. Wear the outfit. Make the memory.

Here is my little mindful reminder:

You are not waiting for the adventure. You are the adventure.

And darling, today is a very special occasion.

Yours in positivity, Ms. Mindful Traveller

## August 20: The Ripple Effect of Paying It Forward

{{< cloudinary src="mt/20260820-f-pay-it-forward.png" alt="The Ripple Effect of Paying It Forward" width="1200" >}}

Have you ever noticed how making someone else's day has a funny way of making your own day brighter?

That, my fellow mindful travellers, is the magic of paying it forward.

Sometimes it is as simple as buying a coffee for the person behind you, offering a genuine compliment, helping a neighbour, sharing your time, or simply noticing someone who could use a little kindness.

I recently spent time at [Neighbourly Coffee](https://neighbourly.coffee/) in Fredericton N.B founded by Marcel Le Brun, along with the tiny homes project, [12 Neighbours](https://www.12neighbours.com/), that is his passion project. What struck me most wasn't just the project itself it was the idea behind it: using something you are passionate about to make life a little better for someone else.

And that got me thinking…

What if we all had a passion project? It doesn't have to be building tiny homes. Maybe your passion is cooking, gardening, art, music, teaching, mentoring, welcoming newcomers, helping seniors, supporting a neighbour, or simply spreading a little joy wherever you go. Your passion project might change one person's day.

That person might change someone else's, and suddenly, kindness starts travelling.

One person. One good deed. One community at a time. That is the passion project behind Ms. Mindful Traveller: spreading positivity in the world. Through every Mindful Moment, I hope to remind you that we all have the ability to leave people, places and communities just a little brighter than we found them.

So here is my challenge for you:

What is YOUR passion project?

What is something you love that could make someone else's life a little better? Find it. Start it. Share it.

When we pay it forward, we discover something wonderful! Kindness is one of the few things that grows every time you give it away. The greatest souvenir we can leave behind is the feeling that someone cared. Until our paths cross again, keep travelling mindfully, keep spreading kindness, and remember your little ripple might create a very big wave. Spreading positivity, one mindful moment at a time.

Passionately yours, Ms. Mindful Traveller

## August 21: Surround Yourself with Positivity

{{< cloudinary src="mt/20260821-f-positivity.png" alt="Surround Yourself with Positivity" width="1200" >}}

I've learned that what we surround ourselves with matters more than we sometimes realize. The people we spend time with. The conversations we have. The places we choose to be. Even the thoughts we allow to take up space in our minds. They all matter.

Life will always have its difficult days because, well, I'm a traveller, not a magician! 😉 But I've discovered that choosing positivity can change the way we move through those days.

Surround yourself with people who make you laugh until your cheeks hurt. People who encourage your dreams instead of shrinking them. People who celebrate your wins, listen when life gets messy, and remind you of who you are when you forget.

Choose conversations that lift you up. Choose places that bring you peace. Choose experiences that fill your cup rather than drain it.

Most importantly, remember that positivity doesn't mean pretending everything is perfect. It means looking for the good, protecting your peace, practicing gratitude, and choosing hope even when the road gets a little bumpy.

As Ms. Mindful Traveller, I say: surround yourself with people who make your heart feel lighter and your spirit feel a little more adventurous. Life is a journey and I'd much rather travel it surrounded by good people, good energy, laughter and a whole lot of love.

So today, take a little inventory: Who fills your cup? What brings you joy? Where do you feel most like yourself?

Spend a little more time with those things. That, my friends, is a mindful moment worth travelling with.

Choose positivity. Protect your peace. Surround yourself with good people.

Yours with love and mindful adventures,
Ms. Mindful Traveller

## August 22: Gratitude Travels Well

{{< cloudinary src="mt/20260822-f-gratitude.png" alt="Gratitude Travels Well" width="1200" >}}

There is something magical about gratitude when you travel.

Maybe it's because we are already a little more awake to the world when we're away. We notice the sunshine, the smell of coffee in the morning, the beautiful view, the music drifting down the street and suddenly, ordinary moments feel extraordinary.

But I've discovered that gratitude isn't just something we feel on vacation. It's something we can give.

Mr. Mindful Traveller and I try to travel with an attitude of gratitude. And no, that doesn't mean we walk around with our hands clasped, smiling serenely at everyone while chanting, "I am grateful." Although… there have been mornings when the coffee wasn't ready, and I may have needed a little spiritual intervention!

For us, gratitude shows up in the little things. We say thank you and we mean it. We smile at the person who brings our coffee. We thank the taxi/uber/bus driver for getting us safely where we're going. We learn a few words in the local language. We leave a thoughtful tip when someone has made our day a little easier. We compliment the cook, the server, the housekeeper, the tour guide.

And when someone goes out of their way to help us, we let them know that it mattered. Never forget people remember how you make them feel.

### Gratitude Is a Travel Gift

Think about all the people who quietly contribute to our vacation.

Someone cleans our room. Someone grows or prepares our food. Someone drives us through unfamiliar streets. Someone carries our luggage. Someone gives us directions when we are completely turned around and insists that the restaurant we are looking for is "just around the corner," which in some countries means five minutes and in others means… well, pack a lunch!

Every one of these people is part of our travel story. So why not make their day a little brighter too? A genuine smile. A sincere "thank you." A compliment. A little patience. A willingness to listen. Picking up a piece of litter instead of walking past it. Respecting the local customs, people and places. These may seem like tiny things, but tiny things add up.

### Leaving a Little Goodness Behind

I believe mindful travel isn't only about what we take home with us. It's also about what we leave behind. Not our garbage, hopefully!

We want to leave behind kindness. Respect. Appreciation. A positive interaction. Perhaps a stranger remembers us because we took the time to ask their name. Perhaps a server goes home smiling because someone noticed their hard work. Perhaps a local business benefits because we chose to spend our money there. Perhaps we leave a place just a tiny bit better than we found it. That, to me, is gratitude in action.

Mr. and Ms. Mindful Traveller aren't perfect travellers. We get tired. We get lost. We occasionally have opinions about delayed flights and questionable directions! We try to remember that we are guests, and when you are a guest in someone's home, community or country, gratitude is a pretty wonderful way to behave.

On your next vacation, try this:

Look for three opportunities every day to express gratitude.
Thank someone who helped you.
Compliment someone who made your experience special.
Show appreciation for the place you are visiting.

Before you leave, ask yourself:

"Did I make this place and the people I encountered feel a little better because I was here?"

Sometimes the smiles we exchanged, the friendships we sparked and the little moments of kindness that travelled both ways are what makes our adventures go from good to great!

Travel with gratitude. Give it freely. And watch how far it travels.

Travel mindfully. Live gratefully. Leave a little goodness wherever you go!

Yours gratefully,
Ms. Mindful Traveller

## August 23: Mind, Body & Spirit : Wherever Life Takes You

{{< cloudinary src="mt/20260823-f-mind-body.png" alt="Mind, Body & Spirit : Wherever Life Takes You" width="1200" >}}

There are days when life feels like a beautiful vacation… and there are days when it feels more like a delayed flight with no gate assignment! That is exactly why taking care of our mental health matters, not just when we are away, but when we are home too. Not just when everything is going wonderfully, but especially when life feels a little heavy.

As Ms. Mindful Traveller, I believe wellness is about caring for the whole traveller: mind, body and spirit.

Nourish your mind: Give yourself permission to rest, to unplug, to talk to someone, to laugh, to learn something new and to acknowledge that you don't have to have everything figured out.

Care for your body: Move it, stretch it, feed it well, sleep when you need to and listen when your body whispers instead of waiting until it has to shout!

Feed your spirit: Spend time with people who lift you up, get outside, listen to music, sit quietly with a coffee. Pray, reflect, breathe or simply watch a sunset. Whatever fills that little cup inside you make room for it.

One of my favourite ways to nurture mental wellness? Is having something to look forward to. It doesn't have to be a big trip. Maybe it's coffee with a friend next Tuesday, a weekend walk, a dinner around the table, a movie you've been wanting to see, a day trip, a vacation on the calendar or simply planning a little adventure close to home. Sometimes, having something on the horizon gives us a little sparkle today.

Life isn't always sunshine and palm trees. There will be difficult days, disappointments, loneliness, stress and moments when our carefully planned itinerary goes completely off the rails.

When those moments come, let's remember: we don't have to travel through them alone.

Reach out. Talk. Ask for help. Be kind to yourself. Remember that caring for your mental health is not selfish it is part of caring for the person who gets to experience this wonderfully imperfect journey called life.

Home or away. Good moments or not so great ones.

Take care of your mind. Move your body. Feed your spirit. Make plans that give you hope. Surround yourself with people and experiences that add a little sunshine to your journey. If today isn't your best day? That's okay. Tomorrow is another destination.

Mindfully yours,
Ms. Mindful Traveller
