Feeding Your Soul While on Vacation

When we think about vacation, we often think about feeding our bodies: trying new foods, enjoying a beautiful meal, sipping a margarita by the pool. But what about feeding our souls?
For me, travel has always been about more than seeing beautiful places. It’s about finding those little moments that make something inside me feel lighter, fuller, and more alive.
Sometimes, feeding my soul means stepping inside a beautiful church, cathedral, mosque, or temple. I don’t have to share the religion or understand every tradition to appreciate the peace within those walls. There is something about the quiet, the architecture, the history, the light filtering through the windows, and the generations of people who have gathered there that can make you stop, breathe and simply be.
Other times, my soul needs music. A musician playing on a street corner. Live music escaping from a little café. The rhythm of a song that makes you want to dance, even if nobody is watching!
Sometimes, it’s connection. A conversation with a stranger. Laughing with friends. Sharing a meal. Sitting beside someone and watching the sunset. Saying yes to an invitation instead of retreating to our room. Travel has a beautiful way of reminding us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
Maybe feeding your soul means wandering without an agenda. Sitting beside the ocean. Watching a sunrise or a sunset. Finding a quiet garden. Reading a book. Helping someone. Being grateful. Or simply giving yourself permission to do absolutely nothing.
So while you’re away, don’t just ask, “What do I want to see?” Ask yourself: What does my soul need?
Perhaps all your soul needs you to do is slow down long enough to hear what it has been asking for all along.
Because the best memories are always the feelings we bring home.
Travel mindfully. Wander deeply. And don’t forget to feed your soul along the way.
Soulfully yours, Ms. Mindful Traveller
