Mind, Body & Spirit : Wherever Life Takes You

Contents

There are days when life feels like a beautiful vacation… and there are days when it feels more like a delayed flight with no gate assignment! That is exactly why taking care of our mental health matters, not just when we are away, but when we are home too. Not just when everything is going wonderfully, but especially when life feels a little heavy.

As Ms. Mindful Traveller, I believe wellness is about caring for the whole traveller: mind, body and spirit.

Nourish your mind: Give yourself permission to rest, to unplug, to talk to someone, to laugh, to learn something new and to acknowledge that you don’t have to have everything figured out.

Care for your body: Move it, stretch it, feed it well, sleep when you need to and listen when your body whispers instead of waiting until it has to shout!

Feed your spirit: Spend time with people who lift you up, get outside, listen to music, sit quietly with a coffee. Pray, reflect, breathe or simply watch a sunset. Whatever fills that little cup inside you make room for it.

One of my favourite ways to nurture mental wellness? Is having something to look forward to. It doesn’t have to be a big trip. Maybe it’s coffee with a friend next Tuesday, a weekend walk, a dinner around the table, a movie you’ve been wanting to see, a day trip, a vacation on the calendar or simply planning a little adventure close to home. Sometimes, having something on the horizon gives us a little sparkle today.

Life isn’t always sunshine and palm trees. There will be difficult days, disappointments, loneliness, stress and moments when our carefully planned itinerary goes completely off the rails.

When those moments come, let’s remember: we don’t have to travel through them alone.

Reach out. Talk. Ask for help. Be kind to yourself. Remember that caring for your mental health is not selfish it is part of caring for the person who gets to experience this wonderfully imperfect journey called life.

Home or away. Good moments or not so great ones.

Take care of your mind. Move your body. Feed your spirit. Make plans that give you hope. Surround yourself with people and experiences that add a little sunshine to your journey. If today isn’t your best day? That’s okay. Tomorrow is another destination.
