Finding Your Joy

Where do you find your joy?
Sometimes we think joy has to be something BIG.
A fabulous vacation. A beautiful home. A fancy dinner. A bucket-list adventure.
Don’t get me wrong…
I am absolutely in favour of a fabulous vacation and a good dinner!
But some of life’s sweetest moments don’t cost a thing.
It’s the song that comes on and suddenly you’re dancing around the kitchen.
It’s the way your heart opens when you see someone you love.
It’s warm sand between your toes on a hot day, okay, not too hot. We don’t want to burn our tender tootsies.
It’s that first sip of coffee while the sun slowly rises.
A belly laugh with a friend. A beautiful breeze on your face. Finding a flower growing where you least expected it. Or sitting with a glass of wine as the sun slips below the horizon.
These little moments are life.
It’s not about money
We can spend so much time thinking happiness is waiting for us in the next purchase, achievement or adventure.
But you can’t buy a sunrise.
You can’t put a price on a hug from someone you love.
No credit card is required for a spontaneous kitchen dance party.
Maybe instead of always collecting things, we should become collectors of moments. “Mindful Moments”
The coffee. The laughter. The sunsets. The unexpected conversations. The walks with nowhere to go. The meals around a table. The people who make an ordinary Tuesday feel pretty darn special.
When we look back, I suspect we won’t remember every thing we owned.
We’ll remember how we felt.
Find your joy
So don’t wait for the perfect day.
Don’t wait for the next vacation.
Don’t wait until everything is figured out.
Look around.
There is probably something worth smiling about right now.
Maybe it’s small. Maybe it’s wonderfully ordinary.
That is the beauty of mindfulness.
We don’t have to make life extraordinary. We just have to be present enough to notice the extraordinary hiding inside the ordinary.
So when the song comes on…
Dance.
When the sun sets…
Watch it.
When someone you love is beside you…
Let your heart open.
When that coffee hits just right…
Savour every sip.
When your toes meet the sand…
Enjoy the feeling.
Life isn’t only about the big adventures.
It’s about all those tiny moments strung together that make us stop and think:
“Wow… life is pretty darn good.”
Mindful Traveller thought:
It’s not about having more. It’s about noticing more.
More laughter. More sunsets. More dancing. More connection. More moments that make your heart say, “I’m glad I’m here.”
That’s where you’ll find your joy.
Joyfully yours, Ms. Mindful Traveller
