June 2026 Mindful Moments Digest

June was a month of exploration, reflection, and embracing the beauty around us. From spontaneous road trips through New Brunswick to wine tasting adventures in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, each mindful moment offered an opportunity to pause and find meaning in our daily travels through life.

This month we explored themes of friendship, self-care, gratitude, and the importance of being present. We also shared practical tips on dealing with mosquitoes, getting quality sleep while traveling, managing seasonal allergies, and being mindful of the spaces we occupy.

Below is the complete collection of all 30 mindful moments from June 2026:

In the off season free style travelling is a possibility. Take a drive and stop wherever you want. Enjoy the view, pack a cooler and explore. Figure out your accommodations on the fly. It can be freeing to just uncover new places without a fixed time line. If you like a place stay, if not just continue on to the next spot. Remember to check in from time to time with family and friends to ensure your safety. Stop at an information booth or look up the areas tourism site on-line, and figure out what you want to visit then go. Maybe you are into beach towns, maybe museums are your thing or is it shopping that fills you with joy. Whatever you choose to do, do it with mindful intention and enjoy!

#ExploreNB / Tourism New Brunswick If you have never visited the east coast of Canada, may I suggest you add it to your travels. If you enjoy hiking, beautiful beaches and kind people, New Brunswick may be the place for you!

Which do you prefer sunrises or sunsets? I feel both are beautiful in their own way. Either the beginning of a beautiful day when everything is calm and the sun starts to rise bringing with it hope for what will come in the hours ahead. Or the end of a joyous day curtsying her way out like a lady ready to dance the night away. Whatever you choose both are beautiful moments to pause and to reflect. Either by setting your intentions for the day or by showing gratitude for the day that has passed. Take this time for yourself, you deserve it!

We have recently been in several discussions with people about property. To own or not to own? House or condo? Owning a home means maintaining a home even when you are away. Having a condo has its perks, someone is looking after the property outside. Keeping an eye out. You still own and gain equity but no longer have to deal with the ‘joys’ of home ownership. Both come with their own perks and their own downfalls. Today I was reminded of one of the downfalls, as I was up to my neck in landscaping. I was reminded of the beautiful gardens we get to enjoy without all the work! Travelling has lead us to some incredible gardens. If you are a gardener I give you lots of credit for your passion with landscaping. I am however not a gardener but I am an enjoyer of beautiful things at home and away! So I leave you to ponder home or condo or just sell everything and rent? What works for your lifestyle? Of course don’t forget to make time to see the beauty in the landscape wherever you choose to be.

Who knows why I’m obsessed with doors? Maybe it’s that they are the entrance way to something unknown on the other side. Whatever the reason, when I’m on vacation I love finding and taking pictures of great doors. I wonder how many people must have passed through those doors before me? Who designed the door? Doors can have so much detail or be something so simple. Each door holds a story and my mere being there with the door I am part of that story. Doors can be welcoming or they can ward off unwanted intruders. Do you notice doors on your travels?

When you travel you meet people. Sometimes you never see those people again and other times the people you meet become family. Today was a day where we reunited with friends who have become family. These reunions are always so special. Smiles all around, and lots of laughter. I am reminded how fortunate I am to have such wonderful people in my life. Take some time today to reach out to a former travel friend. Maybe agree to meet up somewhere in the future. Wanderlust together and form new memories.

Today I take the time to remind you to play. Take time in your day to enjoy yourself, it could be a board game, a card game or maybe taking time in your day for a sport. Play is important even when we are away on vacation. A deck of cards can help pass the time in an airport and helps keep you connected with your travel partners. Stop the doom scrolling and play! You might just be surprised of the inner child it brings out in you.

Lately I have been enjoying my memory picture pop ups. Pictures I took a year ago are making a second appearance and do they ever bring back beautiful memories. We were travelling around Greece and it was definitely picturesque. It is not quite as good as being there but it is certainly a great reminder of why we travel. Sometimes pictures act like motivators at other times it acts like medicine. Where will we go next? How grateful we were to have been able to create such amazing memories. Take a little time to look at your pictures of former travel destinations and take a walk down memory lane. Let it motivate or heal you, whatever you need in this moment.

Have you ever left your home by car and just drove? Not sure of the destination, maybe calling out left or right and then driving? These mini adventures can lead to some interesting spots. Ministers Island in New Brunswick, Canada was one such adventure for us. Historic Site | Ministers Island | St. Andrews NB Waiting for the low tides to drive across the sea floor was an adventure all in of itself. The amazing history and curators on this island were an absolute joy of a day. Take time to reflect on where you have been that was an unexpected adventure.

Some days you need to help shine a little light on someone else. The gift of service always has a way of giving back. Helping someone to fix something or take care of something that they don’t feel comfortable doing is very rewarding. The energy that you give has a way of filling your own cup. Never get so busy that you don’t take time to shine your light on others. Sometimes you are the recipient sometimes you are the giver, either way you win. Help shine a little light on others and make this World a little brighter.

Do you ever wake up and just think today is going to be a great day? On vacation it is easy to get excited over what adventure might await us. When you are home you can get caught up in what needs to get done. That can be draining, however when you take the time to reflect and to be open to all that the day ahead yields it can really be a great day for a great day everyday. Wake up and set your intention for the day. Think of all that you are grateful for and move ahead with positivity and be empowered to make everyday a joyous occasion. If you need a little help I recommend the tiny book Life is Tremendous. Life is Tremendous: Enthusiasm Makes the Difference eBook : Jones, Charlie, Mandino, Og: Amazon.ca: Kindle Store

It’s that time of year when the sunsets are breathtaking and the mosquitoes are out for a feast. If you are like me it is not the most pleasant time. For whatever reason I tend to be a mosquito magnet. I swell up from the bites and start looking like I have chicken pox. The itch is relentless. Recently I have found a new gadget, not going to lie it burns when using but presto the itch and the bump are gone. It works, it doesn’t prevent the bite but it sure does provide relief. The insect bite healer Beurer Chemical-Free Bite Relief Treatment Provides Relief from Itching and Swelling (CA | COM) is going to be a game changer this year. Also I like to have the executioner on hand while sitting out. The Executioner Wasp, Bug, & Mosquito Swatter Zapper - Batteries Included (CA | COM) and someone has recommended Summit Mosquito Dunks (CA | COM) to me. Sometimes being mindful is looking to squash out what bugs you so you can be in the moment!

Yours a little more comfortable, Ms. Mindful Traveller

When we are home we have invested in a great bed. However a great bed can’t be packed in our luggage. So what I have found helps when traveling is keeping with the same nightly routine and trying to go to sleep at the same time. It could mean a few uncomfortable nights if there is a time change in play, but worth it in the end. I wear earplugs every night, I love my Loop Quiet 2 Reusable Silicone Earplugs with 24dB Noise Reduction (CA | COM) they help especially when those odd noises in new places keep you up at night tossing and turning. The loops are easy to keep clean. Light can also be a factor, make sure you try to turn off electronics so there is no blue light and when we travel I bring my eye mask. Sleep Eye Mask for Men Women, Lash Extensions 3D Sleeping Mask for Side Sleeper, Blackout Night Blindfold Eye Shade Cover for Travel (CA | COM) Getting a good night sleep is vital to having mindful mornings. On vacation you don’t want to waste your time being sluggish from a lack of sleep, so prepare ahead. If you know a hotel chain that has comparable beds to your own you may want to try and book there, although that is not always viable. Sometimes a simple thing like bringing a silk pillowcase Mulberry Silk Pillow Cases Standard Size with Hidden Zipper, Ultra Smooth and Soft Breathable Cooling Silk Satin Pillowcase for Hair and Skin (CA | COM) can make all the difference.

Why wait until you are planning a trip to take care of yourself? Today I had a pedicure and did my nails. A small price to pay to make yourself a priority if only for a moment. For you maybe it’s something else that makes you feel better, getting your hair done or possibly going to the gym. Whatever that is, take time to do it, don’t put it off! Travelling is always a great excuse for self-care however there is no reason to celebrate being you.

The wineries around Wolfville are wonderful. We ventured to several wineries located in the Grand Pre/ Gasperau region. We started the morning at Gaspereau, had a picnic snacklebox lunch and played a few games of washer toss. Drove a small ways down the Road to Benjamin Bridge, then off to Acadie for some sparkling. We then travelled to Luckett with its famous telephone booth and headed back closer to Wolfville. We stopped at Lightfoot, spent time on the deck at Mercator and finally arrived at Grand Pre where we sat on the deck for the tasting and headed in to their fantastic restaurant, Le Caveau for an exquisite meal. After dinner we went back to the Micro Boutique apartments for the night. Overall I highly recommend doing your own wine tour, however you must be mindful of having a designated driver.

The weather can really put a damper on travel plans. However bad the weather, seasonal allergies take the cake. The spring brings with it seasonal allergies and that can really put a damper on a vacation. If you suffer like I do, being ready with Systane Ultra Lubricant Eye Drops (CA | COM) and allergy meds of your choice like Reactine Rapid Dissolve Antihistamine Tablets (CA | COM) is essential. This summer a friend and I have agreed to doing five day trips together. We always have the greatest time together and I so look forward to these adventures. We are going to match it up with the five senses: We have some ideas in mind like the smell of Lavender in the fields. Lavender at Ocean Breeze Farm Feeling the sand beneath our feet on the Bouctouche Dunes. Irving Eco-Centre: La dune de Bouctouche Taking time to listen to some local Acadian music. An immersive experience - Akadi Lumina Having a taste test of Lobster rolls or maybe trying another delicacy Experience Shediac - Activities, Accommodations and Restaurants in Shediac, NB of our beautiful province and potentially going to some art galleries. Whatever we choose we will be intentional on hitting the five senses and being mindful of our time together.

Summer is quickly approaching and to ensure you take advantage of all that you deserve, you should set your intentions. Building a bucket list of places you would like to visit, things you would like to accomplish and people you would like to visit. Make it fun, have people over for a drink and explore the endless possibilities. Take a bit of time to really think about summer, maybe you want to do less not more. Whatever you choose this bucket list is yours! Get out the good paper and fancy markers and start planning. Maybe even some scissors, glue and local pamphlets to help you get the creative juices flowing. Once complete start adding a few things to your phone calendar to help get the party started. Bring out your inner child and have fun.

What do you do on a rainy day? Do you take all your adventures inside? Or do you go with the flow and dress for the weather? I like to still continue on with my initial plans whenever possible. I also feel a bit thirsty for a warm drink it just feels right. Find a way to enjoy all of the weather. May I tempt you to get out on the next rainy day. Take a moment to breathe in that crisp air and look around at how water makes the green, just a bit greener. How the rain drops sound so beautiful on a tin roof. How that coffee tastes a little sweeter. How the World slows down for a moment and just breathe deep and enjoy! You might just catch a rainbow. 🌈

All too often we buy something that we consider special, for it to sit unused. This could be a specialty food or drink but could also include clothing or dinnerware. Use it! Everyday is a day to celebrate, to eat those chocolates you bought on a trip to Switzerland or the Port brought back from Portugal. Serve yourself on that beautiful dish that you got as a gift from Greece. Wear those beautiful Italian leather shoes. Your life is special every day and everyday you can celebrate you. Take time weekly at least to celebrate the good stuff! Be mindful as you remember where these special things came from, Were they a gift or a souvenir? Who was with you when you bought or received this special item? How does this item make you feel? Nostalgia is also a special gift we give ourselves!

A day to celebrate the men in our lives who have fathered children. Starting with Mr. Mindful Traveller who has always been there for his children since day one. To the dads that have taken on the responsibility of raising a child that they treat like their own and everything in between. I am blessed to have been surrounded by respectful dedicated men that make every day better because they care. No matter if your Father has passed or whether they are someone that reminds you of what fatherhood represents, chosen or biological I am mindful of the great fathers that deserve recognition today. Be mindful today and take time to thank someone that you feel is doing a great job being a father. Thank you to all the great father’s out there, you are deeply loved.

A yellow invasive flower that after its yellow bloom, changes to a puff ball, is ready for someone to blow and spread its seeds for the arrival of the next batch and a wish is made. For me the dandelion is a very significant flower in its persistence to grow in even the smallest of cracks, despite its delicate stem who once picked goes limp very quickly. I have many fond memories and have learned many lessons from what some view as a weed. When I was a little girl I would pick these for my grandmother she would delight in the sight of my face smiling handing her a full bouquet. She would place it in a crystal vase. Within hours they would wilt, however it was not the time the bouquet was there but the heart that went into the bouquets that mattered. I try to always remember this valuable lesson. Give from the heart what you can and always delight in the offerings of others. The dandelion can be used medicinally as well Dandelion Health Benefits | Almanac.com making it a pretty versatile flora. Whatever the symbolism of the dandelion means to you The Meaning Of Dandelions and Symbolism I take joy in welcoming the dandelion and making my wish. Today I wish you all a wonderful day filled with flowers that are weeds and weeds that are flowers and the mindfulness to choose what you see in this moment!

Yesterday I spent the day cleaning, going through old papers. I was a teacher and kept every note that students had written me over the years. I spent today walking down memory lane and when I was done I noticed a pattern. I was thanked over and over again for always having a smile on my face and wishing them a great day on the way into my class and always sending them off with a handshake and another smile. That was it they expressed their gratitude for being seen, for being heard. I spent a career reaching out to children in the hopes of making a small impact on their lives. They leave me with a heart full of gratitude, many great memories and the hope for the future. People have the ability to be mindful and sometimes all you need is a smile and a few kind words to truly impact the world.

While teaching I had a small plush cow with magnetic hooves in my class. He was no bigger then the palm of my hand. When students would miss school for family trips or other special occasions. I would have them take Mr. Moo and document his adventures. Documenting your travel can be fun. Mr. Moo had so many great adventures some near and some very very far. At that time I believe Mr. Moo had travelled more then I had. Students enjoyed writing and taking photos to place in Mr. Moo’s travel log. If you have a young family I encourage you to get your children writing of their travels and sharing what they write. You should also be documenting your trip. Take a few pictures, document in whatever way feels right to you maybe videos are more your style. The documenting becomes a mindful moment to reflect and just like that you get to enjoy an adventure for a second time. Others will also get to take joy in reading of your adventures. Choosing just the right words and keeping your mind creatively engaged is a gift you can easily give yourself and others. Be mindful of your creative gifts and share them.

I was reading the other day a story where a woman bought a yellow umbrella because it was on sale and hers had broke. As she used the oversized umbrella she noticed how people smiled at her. A simple change, same situation, a rainy day. Somehow the yellow umbrella felt warm like sunshine. People’s reaction to her changed and she offered to share her umbrella with people. The story spread about the yellow umbrella and she started a yellow umbrella movement. Buying other yellow umbrellas and offering them up to strangers. Simply spreading and receiving acts of kindness. Whether this is a plot of fiction or whether it is a glorious act of kindness doesn’t matter. What matters is that it proves it doesn’t take much to cause a ripple of kindness. You find stories like this everywhere. Enjoy the mundane, enjoy the everyday, find and spread kindness in the simplest of ways. Here and abroad, kindness is everywhere and when you start looking for it you cant help but see it’s abundance.

Yours kindly, Ms. Mindful Traveller

I am blessed to have had great adventures with great people. Travelling can be stressful and if you are with people that don’t match your style then it can be a real challenge. We have a couple friends that enjoy the slow travel like us, they aren’t so much into jam packed schedules, but are wanderers and day planners. We match perfectly as travel companions because we don’t have to follow a constant time schedule and we can split up our adventures without someone being hurt.

Travel companions enjoying a moment together
Great adventures with great people

Sometimes we all get together and sometimes we each seek out our own adventure. We are not late night people and all enjoy a great meal together at the end of the day! Usually planning for the next day through dinner. It’s not to say that we don’t have preliminary plans like accommodations, a list of would likes and the most important an open mind. Things don’t always go as planned. Sometimes a great idea doesn’t quite work out. How did you react? How did your travel mates react? Just because they are great friends does not mean necessarily that they would make great travel companions.

A few questions to ask yourself when deciding to travel with people: Are we…

  1. Booking together or separate? (i.e. Can you share accommodations with them?)
  2. Early birds or night owls? (Do you respect each others morning/night routines?)
  3. Scheduled or do we like to wing it?
  4. Foodies or do we grab and go?
  5. Walkers or do we taxi everywhere?
  6. Historians or adventure seekers?
  7. Go go go or do we prefer leisure time?
  8. Complainers or do we go with the flow? (We all complain but what are your limits and is this a public display? Or do we keep the peace at all cost? Both can disrupt the enjoyment of travel)
  9. Budget friendly or budget busters?
  10. Clean organized or Dirty disorganized?

If you ask yourself these questions and if you can meet somewhere in the middle, then I believe you will have a great trip. Find your people, venture out, and explore this beautiful world and if you can take along a couple of great travel mates all the better.

Today I want to take a moment to reflect on my gratitude for the ability to travel. I am so fortunate to have the time, health and the financial ability to travel. Travel opens your mind to new perspectives, it enlightens you in ways that nothing else can. When travelling I am often in a state of awe. I remember taking my first tropical trip with Mr. Mindful Traveller, he was so mesmerized that we had left snow and were now surrounded by palm trees and an ocean breeze. This led to many more wonderful vacations and a lifetime of memories. I leave you with one message no matter the destination enjoy the moment, be open to the possibilities and find a way to travel.

This week reminded me of the importance of being sign literate. Whether traveling the train or subway or trying to figure out whether or not it’s safe to swim, signs are important. Sometimes there are physical markers such as coloured flags to indicate beach conditions, other times the signs might be showing an undertow or a beware of crocodile. Heed the warning ⛔️!

If you are driving internationally you might need to be on a different side of the road, you may have street signs that you are not used to, research and study first.

Research signs before you travel

Caution is key and educating yourself is power. The ability to be safe on vacation is your responsibility. Signs can also come in reactions of others. If you walk somewhere and people are giving you strange looks it’s probably a sign you aren’t welcome there.

Signs in all their capacity are there to protect us. Spend some time researching and learning before you travel to your destination if you are unsure of the meaning of a sign ask, most people want everyone safe as well. Be safe my friends!

If you are like me, then you are always looking for where you might go to next. Will it be a day trip filled with laughter, a drive, and a picnic at an undiscovered beach? Or is it roaming the streets of a new town and uncovering its beauty and local coffee shops. Maybe your more adventurous and you are climbing a mountain or chasing a waterfall. Wherever your next adventure takes you, may you always be mindful of the places you would like to explore in the future. I draw my ideas from all over, friends who have travelled near and far, the internet, or even tv has provided inspiration. You can’t always be away but you can always be planning the next trip no matter the size. That my friends always brings a smile to my face. I can research, I can ask my friends for great suggestions and I can plan for my next adventure!
