Week 4 October 2026 Mindful Moments Digest

Stretch Before You Soar

There is more to preparing for a flight than checking in, packing a suitcase and making sure we haven’t forgotten our passports. Sometimes, the best preparation happens before we even leave home. For us, a hot yoga class can be a wonderful way to shift into travel mode, giving us time to stretch, breathe and reconnect with ourselves before settling into hours of airport queues and cramped airplane seats.

The gentle movements of yoga help us work on flexibility, mobility and body awareness, while the focus on breathing gives us a chance to quiet the mental chatter that often accompanies travel days. Instead of rushing through a thousand last-minute details, we can take an hour to slow down, release some tension and remind ourselves that the journey is part of the adventure, too.

Travel can be exciting, but it can also be physically demanding. Long flights mean sitting for extended periods, often with limited room to move. Taking time to care for our bodies before departure is one small way to be kinder to ourselves. And once we’re on board, we can continue that mindfulness with ankle circles, gentle seated movements, regular opportunities to stand and walk when it is safe to do so, and a little attention to our breathing.

Of course, hot yoga isn’t about pushing ourselves to the limit or sweating out all our travel worries. The heat makes hydration especially important, so we need to drink water before and after class, listen to our bodies and leave plenty of time to cool down and recover before heading to the airport. A gentler, non-heated yoga session may be the better choice if we’re tired, dehydrated or not accustomed to exercising in the heat.

Perhaps the greatest benefit is the reminder that we don’t have to wait until we reach our destination to begin enjoying the journey. We can create little moments of calm right here, right now, even when our minds are already wandering to the places we’re about to explore.

So before the next takeoff, let’s stretch a little, breathe a little deeper and loosen our grip on the things we can’t control. The flight might be long, the seats might be small, and someone may still recline right into our personal space, but at least we’ll have given ourselves a mindful head start!

Mindful takeaway: Prepare your body, settle your mind and remember that a beautiful adventure begins long before the wheels leave the ground.

Yours stretched and ready,

Ms. Mindful Traveller

Celebrating the Man You've Become

Today, we celebrate one of our greatest gifts in life, our son! On your birthday, we hope you know just how incredibly proud we are of you, not only for what you do, but for the person you have become.

Watching you build a life in Korea, teaching, taking risks, stepping outside your comfort zone, and opening yourself up to new people and experiences fills our hearts with pride. It takes courage to follow a path that leads you far from home, and you continue to show us that some of life’s greatest adventures begin when we are willing to take that leap.

But beyond the adventures, the travels, and the experiences, it is your heart that makes us proudest. Your kindness, your caring nature, and the way you show up for your friends say so much about the man you are. Knowing that you are someone others can count on, someone who brings goodness into their lives, is a gift no achievement could ever replace. Seeing you become such a loving partner to your girlfriend makes us smile, too. We hope we get to meet her in person before too long!

As parents, we know we cannot walk every road beside you, but we hope you always feel our love cheering you on from wherever in the world we happen to be. We look forward to seeing where life takes you next, what new adventures unfold, which friendships grow, and all the wonderful things still waiting around the corner.

Our birthday wish for you is simple: keep being brave enough to explore, kind enough to care deeply, and curious enough to keep discovering what life has to offer. May you always find reasons to laugh, people who love you well, opportunities that excite you, and a life that feels true to who you are.

Happy birthday to the wonderful man you have become. We are so proud to be your parents, and no matter how far your adventures take you, you will always have a home in our hearts.

We love you more than words can say. Here’s to another year of living fully, loving deeply, and making beautiful memories!

Proud parents,

Mr. and Ms. Mindful Traveller

When Friends Become your P.V. Family

One of the greatest gifts of travelling and spending time in a place we love is discovering that, somewhere along the way, friends begin to feel like family. It’s not always the big gestures that make the biggest difference; often, it’s the people who show up before you even have to ask. The ones who offer to pick you up at the airport, help you get settled back in, take care of things while you’re away, and somehow manage to welcome you home with gifts, surprises, and so much love that you can’t help but feel incredibly lucky.

This is what community looks like in action. It’s kindness that goes beyond a friendly hello or an invitation to dinner. It’s knowing that someone is thinking of you, that they genuinely care about your wellbeing, and that they’re willing to give their time and energy to make your life a little easier. These are the people who turn a place we love into a place that feels like home. In Puerto Vallarta, we are fortunate to have found people who do just that.

A very special thank you to Nancy and Barry. Your friendship means more to us than words can fully express. From helping us arrive and settle in to looking after things while we’re gone and showering us with thoughtful gifts, you continually remind us how fortunate we are to have you in our lives. You are so much more than friends; you are part of our Puerto Vallarta family. We are so appreciative of Oscar (our new plant) joining the family, our circle of connection continues to grow!

It’s easy to think of family as the people we are born into, but life has a beautiful way of adding people to that circle. Sometimes they live far from where we grew up, speak a different language, or enter our lives through the simplest of circumstances. What matters is the love, generosity, trust, and genuine care that grow between us.

Mindful moment: Take a moment to think about the people in your life who go above and beyond, not because they have to, but because they want to. The ones who make you feel welcome, supported, and loved wherever you are in the world. Let them know what they mean to you. Never underestimate the power of a heartfelt thank you.

We may travel for the sunshine, the adventures, and the change of scenery, but it’s the people who show up for us who make a place feel like home. When friends become family, we realize just how rich our lives truly are.

Nancy and Barry, we are grateful for you and feel blessed to call you part of our Puerto Vallarta family. ❤️

Because home isn’t just a place you return to. Sometimes, it’s the people who are waiting to welcome you back.

Yours with gratitude,

Ms. Mindful Traveller

Oscar, the new plant gifted by friends Nancy and Barry in Puerto Vallarta When a Stranger Becomes a Friend on a Flight

There’s something special about the people we meet while travelling. Sometimes a flight is simply a flight, filled with a few pleasantries, a smile, and perhaps a polite nod before everyone settles into their own little world. Other times, something unexpected happens. You meet someone, exchange a few words, and before you know it, you’re completely immersed in conversation, sharing stories, experiences, dreams, and perspectives as though you’ve known each other for years. You glance at the clock and wonder, Where did the time go? On a long flight, when you’re lucky enough to meet someone who fills your bucket, lifts your spirits, and leaves you feeling inspired, it’s a gift.

A special shout out to Ashley, whom we met on our flight from Vancouver to Puerto Vallarta. What a wonderful human being and a true inspiration! Then there’s Kerrigan, another incredibly strong, independent woman we met a few flights back. What began as a conversation with a stranger has grown into a friendship, and we’re looking forward to reconnecting with her in Puerto Vallarta this year. These are the encounters that remind us how much we can learn from one another when we take the time to listen, share, and truly connect.

In a world where so much of our attention is pulled toward screens, schedules, and getting from one place to another, there’s something refreshing about uninterrupted conversation. No agenda, no expectations, just two people discovering common ground, sharing a few laughs, and perhaps seeing the world a little differently by the time they part ways. We may board a plane thinking about our destination, but sometimes the most memorable part of the journey is the person sitting beside us.

Of course, not every flight brings a new friend, and that’s okay. But the next time you find yourself seated beside a stranger, leave a little room for curiosity. Put down your book, look up from your screen, and be open to a conversation. You never know who might cross your path, what you might learn, or how a few hours in the air could lead to a friendship that continues long after the plane has landed.

Because sometimes, the best connections we make while travelling aren’t found on a map or listed in an itinerary. They’re sitting right beside us, waiting for a simple hello.

Yours in friendship,

Ms. Mindful Traveller

Finding Our Way Home in Puerto Vallarta

There is something special about returning to a place that has become part of your story. For us, Puerto Vallarta is so much more than a destination on a map or a place to escape the Canadian winter. It is a place where familiar faces bring instant smiles, favourite restaurants welcome us back, and the rhythm of everyday life feels wonderfully familiar. We may arrive with suitcases in hand, but before long, it feels as though we never left.

One of the greatest joys of returning is reconnecting with the people who make a place feel like home. There are friends to hug, stories to catch up on, dinners to share and plenty of laughter as we pick up conversations that seem to have been waiting patiently for us. We return to our favourite coffee spots, wander familiar streets, enjoy the food we have missed and rediscover those little places that have become part of our routine. Even the simplest moments, like running into a friend while out for a walk or deciding where to meet for supper, remind us that belonging is built through the everyday connections we create.

Travel often encourages us to seek out somewhere new, but there is just as much joy in returning somewhere we already love. Familiarity doesn’t make a place less exciting; sometimes, it allows us to appreciate it more deeply. We know where to find the best tacos, which streets lead us to the ocean and where we can sit with a coffee and watch the world go by. We can spend less time figuring everything out and more time simply enjoying being there.

Puerto Vallarta has also taught us that home doesn’t always have to be one particular address. Home can be the people who know us, the places where we feel comfortable, the routines that bring us joy and the community that makes us feel connected. It can be the warmth of the sunshine, the sound of the waves, the familiar greetings and the freedom of walking out the door without much of a plan beyond deciding what might be for supper. Sometimes, home is a place we return to; other times, it is a feeling that travels with us.

Maybe that is one of the beautiful gifts of a life filled with travel. We begin to realize that we don’t have to choose between loving where we came from and loving the places that have found their way into our hearts. We can carry a little piece of each place with us, along with the friendships, memories and experiences that make our world feel bigger and our lives feel richer.

So, as we reconnect with our Puerto Vallarta friends and revisit the places we love, we are reminded to appreciate the privilege of returning. Not every trip has to be about discovering something new. Sometimes, the most meaningful part of travel is realizing just how much a place means to us when we come back.

Mindful takeaway: Home isn’t always where we unpack our suitcases or receive our mail. Sometimes, it’s where familiar faces make us smile, friendships pick up right where they left off, and the simplest moments remind us that we belong. When a place makes us feel that way, we know we’ve found something more meaningful than a vacation destination. We’ve found another place to call home.

Yours at home,

Ms. Mindful Traveller

Back in the kitchen in Puerto Vallarta, settling into the familiar rhythm of everyday life A Little More at Home in Mexico

There’s something special about the moment a place you love begins to feel even more like home. Receiving our Mexican residency is about so much more than paperwork, appointments, and official stamps. It’s a feeling of being welcomed, a sense of belonging, and another step toward embracing the life we’ve come to love in Puerto Vallarta. When you spend half your year somewhere, build friendships, discover favourite places, and become part of a community, it starts to feel like more than a destination. It becomes part of your story.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to Odette and her team for guiding us through the residency process. Having knowledgeable, caring people to help navigate the paperwork and details made the journey that much easier. Sometimes, the right people make all the difference between a stressful experience and one you can enjoy with confidence and gratitude.

Being accepted into Mexico feels like another door opening to a life we’re grateful to experience. We love the sunshine, the food, the walkable streets, the friendships, and the slower pace that reminds us to savour the everyday moments. Of course, we’re still working on our Spanish, but perhaps that’s part of the adventure, too!

Mindful living is about recognizing when something meaningful deserves a moment of appreciation. Today, we’re celebrating not just residency, but the opportunity to keep building memories, deepening connections, and calling another beautiful place home.

Mindful takeaway: Home isn’t always the place where we began. Sometimes, it’s the place that welcomes us, the people who make us feel we belong, and the life we’re fortunate enough to build along the way. Gracias, Mexico, for being part of our journey! ❤️🇲🇽

Ms. Mindful Traveller

The Art of Meliorism

What if we believed that the world could be a little better because of the choices we make each day? That’s the heart of meliorism, the belief that while the world may not be perfect, our actions have the power to make it better. It’s a lovely reminder that we don’t have to solve every problem, change every mind, or have all the answers to make a difference. Sometimes, it’s as simple as offering a kind word to someone having a difficult day, lending a hand without being asked, choosing patience when frustration would be easier, or leaving a place just a little better than we found it.

As mindful travellers, we see this in the people we meet, the friendships we build, and the small acts of kindness that connect us across cultures and communities. We may not always see the results of our actions, but that doesn’t mean they don’t matter. A smile can brighten someone’s day, generosity can inspire someone else to pay it forward, and one thoughtful gesture can create a ripple far beyond what we ever imagined.

Meliorism reminds us that optimism isn’t simply hoping things will get better; it’s being willing to play a part in making them better. We can acknowledge what’s wrong in the world without losing sight of what’s right, and we can accept that we’re imperfect humans while still striving to do a little better ourselves.

So, perhaps the question isn’t whether we can change the world. Perhaps it’s whether we can make a small corner of it better today. We may never know how far our kindness travels, but we can choose to send it on its way.

Mindful takeaway: We don’t have to change the whole world to make a difference. We just have to leave our little piece of it better than we found it.

Yours feeling inspired,

Ms. Mindful Traveller
