Week 1 September 2026 Mindful Moments Digest
September 7: Sunshine & Strolls in Peoria
There’s something wonderfully mindful about Peoria, Arizona.
The days are made for sunshine, while the evenings bring that refreshing desert coolness that makes you want to sit outside a little longer and watch the sky change colours.
Here, the landscape has its own personality. Cactus everywhere, desert blooms, mountain views and walking paths that seem to invite you to wander simply because you can.
Sometimes, a walk doesn’t need a destination. There’s something freeing about walking with nowhere to be and no particular place to go. Just sunshine on your face, fresh air in your lungs and the opportunity to notice what’s around you.
Peoria gives you plenty of ways to fill your day:
Walk or hike the many desert trails. Explore the paths by bike. Stop and appreciate the amazing desert landscape. (Look but don’t touch, ouch). Enjoy a round of golf under that big Arizona sky. Get active with pickleball or other outdoor activities. Wander through shops and local markets. Discover restaurants and enjoy an evening out. Catch a spring-training baseball game. Take a drive into the surrounding desert and mountains. Ride in a hot air balloon to discover the vistas from above. Sit outside at night and enjoy the cool air and incredible sunsets. And, of course, find a good coffee and simply watch the world go by!
Peoria reminds us that not every walk needs a purpose. Not every day needs to be packed with plans. Sometimes we can just follow the path, enjoy the sunshine and see where our feet take us.
A walk to nowhere can sometimes take you exactly where you need to be.
Travel mindfully. Wander freely. Find joy in the journey.
Taking time to reminisce, Ms. Mindful Traveller
September 8: The Vacation Glow-Up
A vacation glow-up isn’t just about getting your hair done, packing the perfect outfits, or finding that swimsuit that makes you feel fabulous.
It’s about taking care of you — before, during and after the journey.
Before you go, start preparing your mind and body for the gift you’re about to give yourself. Book the haircut. Do your nails. Take care of your skin. Get enough sleep. Move your body. Drink your water. Finish what needs finishing so you can leave with a little less on your mind.
And then… choose a place that inspires you.
Maybe it’s a peaceful yoga retreat where you can stretch, breathe and reconnect. Maybe it’s a trek across ancient or biblical paths where every step tells a story. Maybe it’s a beautiful beach, a mountain adventure, a wellness retreat or a spa where your biggest decision is whether to book the massage or the facial first!
There is no one right way to vacation.
The mindful part is choosing what feeds your mind, body and spirit.
During your vacation, give yourself permission to slow down. Schedule the massage. Take the long bath. Sit quietly with your coffee. Walk without needing to get anywhere. Eat something wonderful. Read a book. Explore. Pray. Meditate. Laugh until your cheeks hurt. Sleep when you’re tired.
Let your vacation be more than a change of scenery.
Let it be a change of pace.
And don’t forget the glow-up after you return.
Instead of jumping straight back into the chaos, schedule a little landing time. Leave a day to unpack, do laundry, rest, take a walk and simply be home. Give your body time to recover from the travel and your mind time to catch up with where you are.
Sometimes it’s better sleep, calmer thoughts, renewed energy, healthier habits and a reminder of how good it feels to take care of yourself that is the reward of vacation.
So before you go, prepare.
While you’re away, indulge.
When you return, recover.
Your vacation glow-up isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about returning to yourself.
Yours truly, Ms. Mindful Traveller
September 9: The Friend Who Is Always Up for Anything
We all have that friend.
The one you can call and say, “I’m thinking about going or doing…”
And before you can even finish the sentence, they say:
“Sure! When do you want to go?” Or “I’m in!”
They’re the friend who doesn’t need much convincing. A big adventure? A crazy idea, Absolutely. A little weekend getaway? Count me in. A road trip with no real plan? Even better! A passion project that they inspired!
Sometimes they are the one coming up with the ideas, maybe taking a course together.
“Have you ever thought about going here or doing this?”
“Want to take a little trip?”
“I found this amazing place. We should go!”
Suddenly, an ordinary week has turned into an adventure.
There is something incredibly special about a friend who brings possibility with them.
They make planning fun. They make detours memorable. They make getting lost part of the story. Even when things don’t go exactly according to plan, you end up laughing about it.
The best part isn’t always where you go, it’s who you go with.
It’s the endless conversations, the ridiculous jokes, the shared meals, the “remember when…” stories and those moments when you look at each other and start laughing without even needing to explain why.
Big trips, little trips, spontaneous trips even trips we’ve been planning forever always are better with a friend.
When you have the right friend beside you, the journey itself becomes the destination.
So today, let’s appreciate those friends who say YES to adventure.
The ones who encourage us to get out there, try something new, see something different and make a few more memories.
Because life is better when you have someone who says:
“Sure… when do you want to go?”
And if you’re lucky, you’ll be saying it right back.
Find the friend. Pick a place. Make the plan. Then go!
Yours in friendship, Ms. Mindful Traveller
September 10: The Friend Who Inspires You to Travel
We all have that friend who seems to have been everywhere.
You mention a country, and somehow… they’ve been there. You name a city, and they have a story. You talk about a place you’ve dreamed of visiting, and suddenly they’re telling you where to eat, what to see and which little hidden gem you absolutely cannot miss.
They seem to move around the world with such ease, collecting countries, cultures, stories and friendships wherever they go.
They are truly citizens of the world.
Sometimes when we are lucky, we get to travel with them.
What a gift that is.
Travelling alongside someone who has explored so much can open our eyes to possibilities we might never have considered. They remind us that the world is bigger than our everyday routines and that there are always more places to discover, people to meet and stories waiting to become our own.
The greatest gift to us is when that well-travelled friend chooses to slow down and spend time in our world.
When someone who could be anywhere in the world takes the time to come to where you are, share your favourite places, sit at your table, wander your streets and experience life through your eyes that is something truly special.
Friendship isn’t measured by the number of countries you’ve visited.
It’s measured in the moments you choose to share.
So here’s to the friends who inspire us to see more of the world and to the beautiful reminder that sometimes, the world comes to us.
Keep exploring. Keep inspiring. Keep sharing the journey.
If you’re lucky enough to have a citizen of the world as a friend… make sure you take them somewhere they’ve never been even if it’s right in your own backyard.
Yours in friendship and adventure, Ms. Mindful Traveller
September 11: The People Who Show You Their City
Sometimes the most beautiful way to discover a city is through the people who call it home.
You can walk the same streets a hundred times and still miss the little things, until someone who knows the city says, “Come with me. I want to show you my favourite place.”
They introduce you to the little restaurant you might never have found on your own. They know the perfect lookout point for sunset. They take you to the music venue where everyone knows the words. They show you the hidden café, the neighbourhood walk, the market, the beach or that little spot that doesn’t appear in any guidebook. Suddenly, the city looks completely different, because you’re no longer just visiting a place.
You’re experiencing it through someone else’s eyes.
What makes it even more precious are the people who don’t simply show you their city, they welcome you into their lives. They invite you to their table. They introduce you to their friends. They share their stories. They make you feel at home when you’re far from home.
Sometimes, the greatest travel experience isn’t a famous landmark or a perfect photograph. It’s sitting around a table with people who started as strangers and somehow, by the end of your visit, feel like family.
How precious is that?
To be welcomed. To be included. To be shown someone’s world.
Travel reminds us that the world is full of beautiful places, but people are what make those places unforgettable.
So when someone takes the time to show you their city, don’t just see the sights.
See the gift.
When you can, return the favour.
Open your door. Share your favourite place. Pull up another chair. In this case the most mindful way to travel is simply to let someone show you the world they love.
Yours in friendship and discovery, Ms. Mindful Traveller
September 12: What Winning Really Means
We often think of winning as standing on a podium with a medal around our neck, but maybe winning has a much bigger definition.
Pickleball has a funny way of teaching us that, sometimes you step onto the court determined to win the game. You battle for every point, cheer for your partner, celebrate the great shots and laugh at the ones that somehow fly completely the wrong way. Then sometimes, after all that effort, you walk away without the medal.
But did you really lose?
Not if you made friendships along the way. Not if you spent a beautiful day laughing with people who started as opponents and became friends. Not if your partner gave you encouragement when your game wasn’t going your way. Not if you learned something, pushed yourself, got a little better, and had a whole lot of fun doing it.
There are those magical days when everything comes together and you actually get to put gold around your neck. Those moments are pretty special. You celebrate the hard work, the teamwork, the determination and the joy of knowing you gave it everything you had.
But the medal eventually goes into a drawer.
The friendships don’t.
The stories about that crazy point, the tournament where everything clicked, the partner who had your back, the laughs between games and the people you can’t wait to see again, those are the things you carry with you.
Maybe that’s the real secret to winning.
Sometimes winning means getting the gold. Sometimes winning means simply playing and sometimes the greatest win is finding your people on the court.
So keep playing. Keep laughing. Keep cheering each other on.
When the game is over, the scoreboard may tell you who won the match…
…but your heart gets to decide what you won.
Yours in winning, Ms. Mindful Traveller
September 13: The Beautiful Imperfection of Forgiveness
Forgiveness isn’t always easy.
Sometimes someone hurts us, disappoints us, says the wrong thing or simply behaves in a way we never expected from them.
Our first instinct can be to hold on.
We remember what they said. We remember what they did. We replay the moment and wonder how someone we cared about could have gotten it so wrong.
Here is the thing about being human:
We’re all going to get it wrong sometimes.
We will say things we don’t mean. We will have bad days. We will make selfish choices. We will misunderstand each other. We will disappoint people we love.
Not because we’re bad people.
Because we’re imperfect humans trying to figure this life out as we go.
Forgiveness begins when we remember that.
Give people room to be human
What if we didn’t expect everyone to always say the right thing, make the right choice or handle every situation perfectly?
What if we gave people a little room to stumble?
That doesn’t mean we ignore behaviour that genuinely hurts us. It doesn’t mean we accept cruelty or repeatedly allow someone to cross our boundaries.
It simply means we can recognize:
“You made a mistake.”
Sometimes the person who hurt us may have been struggling with something we knew nothing about.
Sometimes they may not even realize how their words affected us.
They may simply have had a spectacularly human moment.
We’ve all had those.
You know… the moments we’d happily like to return to sender.
Don’t let a grudge become a permanent resident
Holding a grudge can feel like we’re making someone else pay for what they did.
But often, we’re the ones carrying it.
We take the memory into conversations, friendships and new experiences. Something that happened yesterday can quietly steal a little bit of joy from today.
Life is far too precious for that.
Forgiveness gives us another choice.
We can remember without resenting. We can learn without remaining angry. We can have boundaries without having bitterness.
We can decide that the relationship may need to change, while still wishing the person well.
We can accept that they weren’t the person we hoped they would be in that moment and allow them the possibility of becoming better.
Forgive because people matter
Maybe forgiveness isn’t about deciding that what happened was okay.
Maybe it’s about deciding that one imperfect moment doesn’t have to define an entire person or an entire relationship.
Think about the people who have forgiven us.
The times we’ve needed another chance.
The words someone graciously chose not to hold against us.
The mistakes that could have become permanent cracks but instead became moments of growth.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to offer some of that same grace to others?
Not because everyone deserves unlimited chances.
Compassion makes the world a little softer.
Travel a little lighter
As Mindful Travellers, we talk a lot about travelling light.
Perhaps that applies to life too.
We don’t need to pack every disappointment.
We don’t need to keep a suitcase full of old grudges.
We can take the lesson, keep the love that still belongs there, leave behind what no longer serves us and continue on our way.
People are complicated.
People are messy.
People are wonderfully, frustratingly, beautifully human.
So the next time someone lets you down, perhaps pause before writing the final chapter.
Take a breath.
Give them, and yourself a little grace.
Forgive where you can.
Set boundaries where you need to and remember that sometimes the most loving thing we can do is allow someone to be imperfect without making them carry that mistake forever.
Yours in forgiveness, Ms. Mindful Traveller
